THE CARNAGE!
I don’t know about you, but I can’t remember the last time I’d been that tense watching a GoT episode. Hats ff to everyone who was involved in the production.
So, made it and who didn’t? Let’s see who I guessed correctly (in alphabetical order):
Arya: I knew she’d survive, but WOW. Cersei needs to watch herself. CORRECT.
Beric: Heroically dies to save another character. CORRECT.
Bran: I thought he’ die, but looks like 3 eyes lives another day. INCORRECT.
Brienne: Looks like she was the linchpin of the surviving ground forces, but not sure if she made it through or not. UNSURE.
Clegane: Bring on Cleganebowl! CORRECT.
Davos: I thought he would die, but he disappeared during the battle. UNSURE.
Eddison: I thought he’d survive, given how much he’s fought the White Walkers, but looks like his long watch has finally ended. INCORRECT.
Gendry: Another one who has disappeared in the battle, but it would be good to see him survive. UNSURE.
Gilly: Played a surprisingly small role in the Crypts, but good to see her live for another day. CORRECT.
Grey Worm: I think we can all agree that Grey Worm was pure steel in this battle, so I’m glad to be wrong about his fate. Hopefully he’ll survive to the end of the series. INCORRECT.
Jamie: Another one who disappeared, but I’m assuming if he was going to die, he’d have gotten more screen time, so I’m marking my prediction as INCORRECT.
Jorah: Poor Jorah, died as he lived, protecting the queen he loved. Everyone saw this coming a mile away. CORRECT.
Missandei: Glad to see Missandei made it through the crypts, but again I’m surprised she didn’t get more screen time. CORRECT.
Podrick: Another character that was struggling in the battle, and it’s not clear if he lived or not – he was certainly getting mobbed by the ranks of undead. UNSURE.
Samwell: I had him pegged as dying, and was visibly struggling during the battle. Again, it’s not clear if he survived, but honestly, I don’t see how he could have. UNSURE
Sansa: A loved the sweet moment she had with Tyion (and we all saw the fight with the Stark Zombies coming). I’m looking forward to seeing her face off against Cersei. CORRECT.
Tormund: My wife and I disagree about the Giantsbane’s fate. He was certainly getting mobbed when the Castle was taken, but it’s not clear if he died or not. UNSURE.
Tyrion: For a second there I thought Martin was going to take our favorite character away, but it looks like he survived the battle of the Crypts, and even showed some guts while doing so. CORRECT.
Varys: As predicted, the Spider stayed smart and kept himself safe. It’ll be interesting to see if he can pull out any final tricks against Cersei. CORRECT.
Daenerys and Jon: As predicted, they both survived, although it looked like Jon’s number was up against the undead dragon. If I was Danny though, I’d be a bit pissed about the dragon ditching her while she was surrounded by zombies. CORRECT. As for the animal companions? Looks like they all survived, including Ghost, so INCORRECT.
Extra bonus: Melisandre! While she could never be considered a “good” character I think she redeemed herself in this episode, and was finally able to fulfill her role of being the right force at the right time that turns the tide of battle. Pulling Arya together and setting her on the Night King arguably saved the entire continent. A good death.
Extra Extra Bonus: I can’t believe I left Theon off my original list! I apologise to all the Theon fans out there. I think we could all see that he wasn’t going to make it, but Bran telling Theon that the Greyjoy was, finally, a good person was incredibly touching. Yes he died, but he died bravely fighting one of the worst enemies ever to befell humanity. A noble death.
Extra Extra Extra Bonus: There’s only one person Chuck Norris is afraid of, and that’s Lyanna Mormont. The most EPIC FIRIKKIN’ DEATH EVER. Who else can boast they killed a goddamn GIANT on the way out? We’ll miss you, bear-girl.
