DnD Battle Report

So, my daughter’s birthday DnD campaign has come and gone, and a good time was had by all.

Our band of intrepid cut-price adventurers braved the laboratory of Arrad the Mad, trying to stop him before he released a plague upon the kingdom. After being shrunk. the tiny heroines fought monsters, rival adventurers and at one point a group of kobolds dressed like chess pieces, all while trying to unravel the secrets of the mad sorcerer. Arrad was cured of his insanity after the self-sacrifice of the Dragonborn Paladin, however the traitor of the group managed to release the plague anyway, which was only stopped by an impassioned plea to a unicorn that had been used as a test subject.

Watching the group of girls get into the game was great fun. The extroverts took the lead in role-playing situations, such as trying to calm a giant (from their perspective) pet serpent, while the quieter girls were happy to play more combat. Sometimes the risks they took paid off, such as unmasking a secret demon cult trying to get their hands on the plague. Sometimes curiosity got the better of them, such as when the large, smooth round container beneath the sorcerer’s bed turned out to be… a chamberpot.

What I loved was the way each player chose their moment to reveal their character secrets, some right form the get-go, while the quietest girl in the group managed to wait until the last round of the game before revealing she had been the traitor all along. Whenever they did, there was a flurry of interaction as the character relationships reformed. They’re teenage girls, they live for the drama.

Back to normal programming next week, as always, have a great week writing (or playing)!
